Suffering from a Toothache?

Toothache is a painful dental issue that can occur in the teeth and around your jaws. There are many causes of toothaches, but it usually starts suddenly with mild discomfort to severe pain depending on how far away from normal function your mouth muscle has become due either reversible conditions such as gum disease or irreversible ones caused by injury (like losing two front baby teeth early) which leaves an open space for bacteria buildup. Over time, eventually the buildup will cause permanent damage leading up towards extraction if left untreated.

Question:

I had a toothache on one of my teeth and the gums are slightly swollen. When I touch it, there's tenderness all over again so after a few days for this to go away without treatment: then two days later- it happened again just as quickly which means something isn't right. What do I do?

Answer:

If you have a sudden toothache, it is important to see a dentist as soon as possible. The pain may be a sign of a more serious problem, such as decay that has spread deep into the tooth. Often, root canal treatment is necessary to save the tooth. If you note mild symptoms on other teeth, a check-up with Smiles for All dentist will help prevent a bigger problem from occurring.

Treatment Options to Expect from Toothaches

  • Remove decay and fill with composite bonding
  • Root canal therapy and crowns
  • Drain swelling & provide antibiotics
  • Tooth extractions if damage is too severe.
